Roy Billinton, a Canadian scholar and Distinguished Emeritus Professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, died on December 23, 2025.
He was known for his work on power system reliability evaluation and for research and application of reliability concepts in electric power systems. In 2007, he was elected a Foreign Associate of the United States National Academy of Engineering for contributions to teaching, research and application of reliability engineering in electric power generation, transmission and distribution systems.
In 2008, he received the IEEE Canada Electric Power Medal. Billinton was the author or co-author of eight books on power system reliability, including the first English-language book on the subject, published in 1970.
