
Rob Base, the American rapper best known as one half of Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, died on May 22, 2026, of cancer.
He was 59. Performing under the stage name of Robert Ginyard, he was part of the Harlem, New York City hip-hop duo with DJ E-Z Rock, whose 1988 single “It Takes Two” became a top 40 hit and was certified platinum by the RIAA.
The duo released its first U.S. single, “DJ Interview,” on World to World before signing with Profile Records in 1987. Base was active in music from 1985 to 2014.
