Born Michael George Browning on May 26, 1964, in Tampa, Florida, he began playing drums at 13 and went on to work in death metal, a genre shaped in part by the bands that influenced him, including Black Sabbath, Slayer, Angel Witch, Mercyful Fate and Celtic Frost. Browning was the drummer and vocalist for Morbid Angel from 1984 to 1986, and he appeared on the group’s only official recording from that period, Abominations of Desolation, which was released years after he had left the band.
