Marios Oikonomou, the Greek footballer who played for Bologna, AEK Athens and the national team, died on June 1, 2026, in a motorcycle collision, according to reports.
He was 33. Born in Ioannina on October 6, 1992, Oikonomou began his career with PAS Giannina and signed his first professional contract in January 2011.
He went on to make his Greece U21 debut in November 2012 and later moved to Cagliari after establishing himself in the Greek game. A centre-back by trade, he also represented Greece at senior level.
