Lynda Hale, a footballer who played as a winger and represented England at senior international level, died on March 2, 2026, aged 71–72.
She spent most of her career at Southampton Women’s F.C., where she made her debut in a 9–0 victory over Ipswich at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Netley. Hale won the Women’s FA Cup seven times with Southampton and appeared in nine consecutive finals, including the first in 1971 against Stewarton Thistle.
She scored in the 1973 and 1975 finals. Hale also played in England‘s first women’s international, against Scotland at Ravenscraig Stadium, Greenock, on November 18, 1972, and scored in a 3–2 win.
