Koo Sze-yiu, a Chinese political activist known for anti-communism protests, died on April 8, 2026, at the age of 80 from colon cancer.
Also known by the nickname “Long Beard,” he was widely recognized for carrying a handmade coffin and burning flags at demonstrations. He was jailed 12 times over his protests and continued taking part in Hong Kong social movements after 1989, including 1 July marches and other actions after the 1997 handover.
