King Liu, the Taiwanese businessman who founded Giant Manufacturing Co.

Ltd., died on February 16, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in central Taiwan on July 2, 1934, Liu worked for his father’s trading and food manufacturing business before investing in logistics and aquaculture, including trucking, importing fish feed, and eel farming.

After a series of failures, he founded Giant in 1972. He was not a cyclist before starting the company, but later rode bicycles to work in Giant’s early years. In 2007, at age 73, he rode around Taiwan, and at 75 he rode from Beijing to Shanghai.

King Liu (Chinese: 劉金標; 2 July 1934 – 16 February 2026) was a Taiwanese businessman who was the founder of bicycle manufacturer Giant Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
