Houston McKelvey, an Irish priest and former Dean of Belfast, died on March 19, 2026, aged 83.
Born in Muckamore on September 3, 1942, he was educated at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Queen’s University Belfast and Trinity College, Dublin, and was ordained in 1968. He served as curate at Dunmurry until 1970, then as rector of Kilmakee for 12 years.
He later became secretary of the General Synod Board of Education (Northern Ireland), a post he held until 2001, when he was appointed Dean of Belfast at St Anne’s Cathedral, serving until 2011.
Robert Samuel James Houston McKelvey, OBE QVRM TD (3 September 1942 – 19 March 2026) was a priest in the Church of Ireland who served as the Dean of Belfast.
