Giuseppe Gargani, the Italian politician who served as a deputy from 1972 to 1994 and as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009, died on May 27, 2026.
He was 91. Born on April 23, 1935, in Morra De Sanctis, Gargani was also a lawyer.
He represented Forza Italia in the European Parliament and sat with the European People’s Party group. In July 2004, he was elected chair of the Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs. Earlier, he had been chairman of the Avellino provincial administration from 1970 to 1972 and later served as Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice from 1979 to 1983.
