David Harding (artist) Glenrothes town artist and Head of Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art dead at age 88

David Harding, a Scottish artist and teacher, died on February 21, 2026, aged 88.

He was best known for his residency as a town artist in the new town of Glenrothes and for serving as Head of Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art. Born in Leith on March 3, 1937, he studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1955 to 1959 and attended Moray House College of Education in 1960.

Harding taught in schools in Scotland before working in Nigeria from 1963 to 1967 and later turned to sculpture commissions.

David Harding (3 March 1937 – 21 February 2026) was a Scottish artist best known for his residency as a town artist in the new town of Glenrothes and as Head of Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art.
