Colman McCarthy, an American journalist for The Washington Post and peace activist, died on February 27, 2026, at age 87.
Born in Glen Head, New York, on March 24, 1938, he worked as a journalist, teacher and lecturer and was described as a pacifist, progressive and anarchist. His educational philosophy drew some controversy in 2006, when two Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School students called for a more balanced presentation of the issues covered by his class.
