Bertie Higgins, the Scottish amateur footballer known for his time with Queen’s Park, died on February 1, 2026.
Born Cuthbert Edward Higgins on January 26, 1945, he played in the Scottish League as an outside left and was capped by Scotland at amateur level. He completed a five-year apprenticeship as a sailmaker in 1966, emigrated to Canada in 1970, and later ran his own sailmaking business in Toronto.
Higgins subsequently operated a business making artificial bouquets. He was living in Burlington with his wife, Marilyn, whom he had married 53 years earlier, at the time of his death.
