Alex Noerdin, an Indonesian politician who served as governor of South Sumatra from 2008 to 2018, died on February 25, 2026.
He was 75. Born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 9 September 1950, Noerdin also served as regent in Banyuasin for two consecutive terms, from 2001 to 2006 and from 2007 to 2012.
He resigned from that post in June 2008 to seek the governorship of South Sumatra, was elected later that year, and took office on 7 November 2008. His second term ended on 21 September 2018, when he was succeeded by Herman Deru.
